Being Social

Social defined new
What would you do if you see a girl eating out food from a dustbin? Praveen and Gaurav once met in Mc Donald’s and saw this scene. This disturbed them, got them emotional and yes concerned them. That was the moment when the idea of Being Social popped up in their head. There was no going back then. They started in 2015 and are working in different sectors now.
WAS THE WAY EASY?
Making people understand that their work will have an impact was the most difficult part. Finding time out of their busy schedules for social work was not easy for them as well. They sometimes had sleepless nights or missed food at other time. Working with zero initial investment and no funding, things did not go smooth. But soon they were stable and now they have volunteers across seven cities- Bangalore, Delhi-NCR, Hyderabad, Jaipur, Ludhiana/Chandigarh, Mumbai & Pune.
WHAT DO THEY DO?
They are not working in just one field. Be it small kids, elders, women or youth; they work for all. Being Social operates on weekends or on national holidays where every volunteer joins them to keep up the good work. They organise various events in backward areas and create an impact. But for them, it is not a one-time thing because changes take time. They visit those places regularly and keep a check on the progress.
Below are some of the events that they have done till now:
- In an initiative to empower, educate and employ women, an initiative was launched. They talked about periods openly and freely. Not just they educated girls and women about the menstrual hygiene, they also distributed sanitary napkins and taught them how to make it so that they can be a breadwinner.
- Inspired by the clean India drive, they go door to door to talk about cleanliness and hygiene. They also transform some backward areas with paintings and make it a clean area.
- Being social cares about the elderly and pay regular visits to old age home and spends quality time with them so that they do not feel alone.
- They also distribute clothes and blankets during winters to protect people living in slums from the wrath of winters.
- Awareness campaigns are arranged in slums, government schools and other areas for healthcare and also medical check-ups are done.
- They believe in imbibing all the moral principles and skills in children. So they educate primary skills and other manners to children of slums and orphanages.
They have been trying their best to contribute to the society. They wish to further work on pollution, child adoption and want to ensure that India has a happiness index to measure the progress in their lives.
