The Attempt
India is a young country. The statement if one reads at a glance sounds simple and plain. However, if one tries to understand further the gravity of the statement, realize the intent and impact it has. Especially in the present context when we are celebrating the 156th birth anniversary of Swami Vivekananda(The monk who was the beacon of spiritualism to the materialistic world then) to mark the national youth day of the nation. The statement definitely compels us to think “what cannot be achieved with this tremendous potential”.
It doesn’t happen often that one attempts to enter into the Golden Book of World Record. But, the coastal beach of Karnataka, Malpe looked all set for it on Saturday, to make this youth day an unforgettable one.
Reportedly believed to be the brainchild of Prakash Malpe, the coordinator and head of the “Samvedana Foundation”, an NGO based at Malpe which initiated the move, was also supported by few digital partners.
The attempt which aimed to sing Vande Mataram full version having 2000 students together with the background music was received with great enthusiasm and energy, which was evident when student’s number surpassed the given 2000, when over 50 colleges from Udupi, Manipal and Mangalore participated in the attempt.
A show of unity and power of youth, the attempt also had the backing of Fisheries, Sports and youth development minister Karnataka also attempted his presence to ensure the success of the attempt.
Participants in the event were dressed in the white attire, wearing the same badge of the” Samvedana Foundation”, with the tri-colour scarf hanging around the neck. The attempt was marked by carrying of national flag from Gandhi Shatabdi ground to the beach by the possession of the students. As many as 30 singers were reported to have participated in the attempt.
The attempt’s success was acknowledged by Santosh Agarwal the representative from the Golden Book of World Records who awarded the certificate of people wearing the same badge to the man behind it, Prakash Malpe.
The attempt was also a site of attraction for the local audience who appeared delightful to hear from popular singers like Yashwant and Vaishnavi Ravi beside others in the evening.
Having been a part of the spectacle I can happily claim that it was THE ATTEMPT indeed.
