 Army Day - A Salute To The Souls Who Sacrificed Their Lives For The Country

A  salute to the soldiers who sacrificed their lives for the country.

 

Army Day is celebrated every year on January 15th to pay  homage towards the departed soldiers.  In 1949, the last British Commander-in-chief, General Sir Francis Butcher, who handed over the charge to Lieutenant General  Cariappa who appointed as the first Commander-in-chief of the Indian Army, to pay respect towards our first commander-in-chief this army day is celebrated.

This day is celebrated to honour all those who served our nation by sacrificing their lives. The day is celebrated with grand military shows and parades. Our President Ram Nath Kovind and Supreme Commander of the Indian Armed Forces greeted the Army on this occasion.

Why Is Army Day Celebrated?

Army Day is celebrated to pay the homage to the souls who sacrificed their lives for the nation. The soldiers of our nation are always alert in hard times at the borders to protect our nation from the neighbouring countries.

Celebrations:

Indian army plays a significant role in times of disaster situations and border disputes. Before the parade starts, Indian Prime Minister visits  “Amar Jawan Jyoti”  the Tomb which was built for the unknown soldiers who sacrificed their lives for the country. It is a marble construction with a helmet and a rifle which represents the unknown soldier who dedicated his life during the hard times. The words “Amar Jawan were carved on the cenotaph in golden letters. Along with Prime Minister and President, many other dignitaries visit this place to pay their tributes to the departed souls. This Amar Jawan Jyoti was inaugurated by our former Prime Minister, Indira Gandhi in the year 1979. It was always guarded by the army forces and it has a great history.
