We hear much about pollution and concerns of people holding responsible positions. All on a sudden the zeal to fight for the environmental cause also grips me. But sooner, as the days pass by things are normal, concern disappeared, we don’t find follow-up from people holding responsible positions. Slowly a person like me also comes to a state of rest and happy with the status quo.
October 15 is the birthday of Bharat Ratna and former president Dr. A.P.J Abdul Kalam. According to a note released by the Global Burden of Disease (GBD) air pollution is the fifth largest killer in India killing thousands annually. People who commute by two-wheelers or those who commute by bus are worst affected by the pollution. Delhi stands top in air pollution Can any innovation helps us get rid of pollution? We need to delve deeper.
Wealth Creation Ideas from Air Pollution!
We have seen startling facts on air pollution. Dear students, I want to ask you a question. If somebody comes up with a brilliant idea to reduce pollution with the potential to create profit and generating opportunities, what will be your response? I know you will like it. But many are unaware of such good innovations. Let me tell one example.
A startup named Graviky Labs have successfully converted air pollutants to ink. Anirudh Sharma, Nikhil Kaushik, Nitesh Kadyan promote this company. We need to check the raw material for making ink. This Their method is to collect air pollution soot like fine black particles produced by incomplete combustion of fossil fuels to manufacture ink. Nearly 40% of the population comprises youth. Their health matters a lot for the nation as they are the ones who should contribute to nation building.
When one startup industry comes up with an excellent idea that is beneficial to all including environment, there should be an appreciation from those who are in authority to sustain such industries. For this, students should come to the forefront in organising support to such themes that can catch the attention of the government. Let us ignite minds further, but for another cause. In 2014, news came on another invention. That was about converting plastics into car fuel. What the news appeared in Indiatimes was about reusing discarded plastic bags and turning them into fuel to power car engines. Wonderful invention! But what about the follow-up? How many companies are creating wealth out of fuel out of plastic?
Get Rid of Plastic and Create Opportunities
Imagine a scenario where such startups come to existence. First of all, it helps us to get rid of plastic waste that is harmful to the soil. Secondly, it could create jobs right from rig pickers to engineers. Do you agree with me? That is why my suggestion is to form a network comprising youth, aspiring startup entrepreneurs, and government to identify obstacles and managing the same through attention-grabbing campaigns.
Most of us may find it difficult to change our old habits. Many find it difficult to avoid using plastic bags. If innovative ideas like automobile fuel from plastic, we can use plastic bags that are cheap and reuse it as the vehicle fuel. If such innovation is yet to materialise, then there is a need for opinion molding to find what hinders such discovery into a wealth creation business. For that, we derive energy from the sayings of Dr. Kalam, “Never give up.” If automobile manufacturers want to sell more cars, there should be cheaper fuel available. Otherwise, sales will be average, not high. Therefore, they should also come forward to promote fuel out of plastic.
