Since 2007, The European Academy of Wind Energy ( EAWE ) recognizing the excellence with two awards presented annually by inviting applications from researchers in wind energy across the world.
Dr. Jayachandra Naidu Sakamuri won this Award for the year 2017 by competing with many other Ph.D. students graduated in this year from different Universities/Countries working in wind energy (around 300 Ph.D. graduates this year according to EAWE). In general, around 5 to 7 Ph.D. students are eligible for nomination and finally, one candidate is selected for the Award.
Dr. Jayachandra Naidu Sakumari, received his doctorate from Department of Wind Energy, Technical University of Denmark (DTU, Denmark) in May 2017 funded by European Union Marie Curie Fellowship. Prior to his Ph.D., He worked as Scientist at ABB in Chennai, India, and Ludvika Sweden for 3 years and as R & D Engineer at Crompton Greaves Ltd Nashik, India for a couple of years. He received his post-graduate degree (M.Tech) in Electrical Engineering from Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur in May 2009 after having spent one year as an exchange to the Technical University of Berlin, Germany under German Academic Exchange Scholarship (DAAD) where he carried out studies which contributed to his Master’s thesis on Modeling and Control of Grid Connected Solar PV Systems. In Feb 2008 when he was a student at IIT Kanpur, with the help of few friends, he found Aashritha, (http://www.aashrithagroup.org/) an NGO which works on child education development in India. Today Aashritha has more than 300 members worldwide helping few hundreds of kids in India to go to school. Last year (2016), with the help of research from DTU Denmark, he took “Guidance for Graduates”, an online platform to guide students aspiring for higher education and research abroad. Guidance for Graduates has a YouTube channel and FB page where they teach students on applying to masters/Ph.D. at different Universities across the globe, post interviews with professors and researchers, organize guest lectures at Universities/colleges in India, etc.
What is the reason behind selecting Dr.Jayachandra Naidu Sakamuri for this Award?
The award committee felt that the research area is fairly novel and quite an important field as well. The interesting part of this work is “The research is focused on frequency control of different AC grids connected through multi-terminal DC grid with offshore wind power plants. Also, the thesis is focused on developing coordinated control strategies for the cluster of offshore wind power plants connected to an HVDC station. The conclusions of this thesis are supported by time-domain simulations as well as validated on a 3 terminal DC grid test set up, which proved the level of completeness of this work.
The news about this Award has been published at Technical University of Denmark website, where he received his Ph.D.
