 How Mantu Kumar Used Science To Fight Against Superstition

Mantu Kumar belongs to Madhubani, Bihar. He has a Masters in Commerce (M.Com), Bachelor of Library & Information in Science, Vocational Training in Trade and Bachelor of Physical Education.


Mantu Kumar's father Ram Bhushan Mandal had a strong belief in astrology and occult arts. Ram Bhushan once had a dream that he won a lottery and became filthy rich. He started playing the lottery. Lottery playing came to such an extent that they had to sell their land.


After this loss of the family Mantu Kumar strongly decided to fight against superstition.

The beginning of Success Science for Society:

In the year 2006, a group of 21 young people started Success Science for Society. Their aim was to destroy superstition with the help of science. Mantu Kumar’s plan was to unveil the tricks of impersonates. During this, he came into contact with Prof. Dr. Narendra Naik, Indian Rationalist Association, Mangalore. Prof. Dr. Narenda Naik explained and educated Mantu the scientific reasons for the tricks done by impersonators.

Mantu Kumar started stage shows to enlighten society with the actual truth and facts of the tricks used to fool people and all the expenses for this were beared by Mantu and his friends.
Few of his unveiling tricks include impersonators inserting nail though tongue, birthstones turning fiery red which are sold on pavements.He was won many awards for his outstanding work.

Few of his awards are:

  1. National Youth Award(2015-16) 
  2. In the year of 2015, won an award at Rashtriya Ekta Shivir, Mizoram
  3. 2012 - He won an award for scientific display at Aligarh Muslim University
  4. In the year 2006, Mantu Kumar was awarded by Former President of India, Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam for his extraordinary efforts towards society.

Apart from this, he also works for 'Swacch Bharat', 'Beti Bachao Beti Padao' & Women Empowerment.
