Sleep It Out:
We all know sleeping is the weirdest thing we do every day. But do you know the ill-effects of sleeping less? According to the statistics, two third of the adults fail to obtain the recommended sleep of 8 hours of nightly sleep. Regularly sleeping less than 6-7 hours of sleep can lead to serious diseases such as cancer, Alzheimer, hypertension, obesity, diabetes, congestive heart failure.
Sleep has a direct connection with the building up of the brain. During our infancy sleep builds our brain. In our mother’s womb i.e. when we have not even seen this world since then sleep has shown its importance. As we come out to this glittery world, during childhood we spent most of the time of our daily schedule in sleeping nearly (15-16) hours. Slowly we come to school, where it gets reduced to 9-12 hours. As we enter the teen, career-shaping and bright future goals force us to reduce.Then comes the college years or let’s say graduation years. Here sleep is directly linked to success.This is the pinnacle period beyond which we are about to land up in the world full of responsibilities. Further comes adulthood family tension, and many other responsibilities start eating up our rest.
Women are more sleep deprived than men because of many reasons such as during menstruation, sleep duration varies. Also during menopause, there are some difficulties. Further, in our patriarchal society, all the responsibilities of household activities lie with women so in order to balance between home and work she cuts sleep. Finally, we end up in our old age where the quality of sleep goes down although they feel sleepy.
Basically, we never get the required amount of sleep we want. So sleep it out. Rather than reducing sleep and ultimately reducing life and quality of work, try to improve the efficiency of work so that you get sufficient sleep.
