Mumbai Garbage Fighters

Mumbai took an initiative in handling the garbage issues and forced people to change their habits and pointed towards their household garbage. The BMC decided to educate the local people with the concepts like waste segregation, recycling procedures, and composting techniques.

According to the BMC’s latest Environmental updates, Mumbai is dumping the trash for 9400 tonnes daily into the dumping yard. The suggestion is that if Mumbai takes action against this burning issue and move forward towards cleaning city by reducing the garbage and transporting the same to landfills.

Few warriors came forward and took initiatives to keep the city clean. Let's have a glance at them.

A 42-year-old Kanta Waghmare who is a waste collector spends her most of the time in the Deonar dumping ground. She collects the garbage and sorts it slowly and she is a member of Stree Mukti Sangathan which is a women’s Organization that runs in collaboration with the BMC. Her duty is to collect, sort the waste and sell. On an average, she gets 300-350 Rs per day.

The Sangathan targets only the recyclable waste which can be sold for a better price. A separate team of BMC collects the wet garbage and that so-called collected garbage is sent for the composting.

According to Modi’s Swachh Bharat program, the Mumbai residents are trying to clean their neighborhood and make their Mumbai as a clean city in the coming days.
