Even though we are aware of the worst effects of plastic usage, but still the usage of plastic is continuing. If we are unable to dispose of any product, better find a way to recycle it. Here is an interesting story by a social enterprise where they showed an innovative way to use the discarded water bottles. Disposing of the biodegradable material is a major problem, to overcome from such scenarios better if we can recycle the biodegradable products for an innovative purpose it is small relief for all of us. So now it is the time for all of us to think of innovative recycling methods for non-biodegradable products.
Bamboo House India, a Hyderabad-based social enterprise came forward and started their journey towards the recycling of non-biodegradable products, the final result is our “Plastic Bus Stop.” They started their journey under the banner of ‘Recycle India’.
Two young graduates, from Swaroopnagar Colony, Uppal, Hyderabad, started their company and collected the scrap like tires and drums recycled them and made benches and seats. Within a short period, they took an initiative and constructed a bus stop by using the discarded water bottles.
Two young guys said that they used nearly 1,000 bottles of one-liter, to construct this Plastic Bus Stop. The construction of this bus stop costs nearly 15,000 Rs. The dimensions of the shelter are 8x4 feet and they used the metal to prepare the frame, said Prashant Lingam, one of the two partners who is a management graduate.
The story behind their Innovative Construction.
As the city is short of bus stops and there is a huge demand for the contractors and demanding high rates which may run into lakhs, these young and dynamic bright management graduates designed and developed a shape for their thought, ultimately our Plastic Bus Stop shaped. They designed this in a knockdown model as and when necessary they can remove this.
Construction Procedure
To construct the plastic bus stop they bought 1,000 plastic bottles for Rs.1.40 each. They drilled a longitudinal hole and joined the bottles with the wire rope. They made the frame with metal and roof with bottles. As plastic is prone to melting feature at certain degrees, there need a routine check said the young graduates.
The main advantage of the bottle shelter is it allows the air to move freely, thus preventing relief from high temperatures. Even though this is not a permanent solution for the residents, but they showed their gratitude for our young graduates for their initiative step.
Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) received many requests from the local residents but failed in their operation for few reasons. Bamboo House India initiated without the GHMC permission but now there were talks going on for seven pilot projects that a plastic bus shelter can sustain for all seasons.
