Role of Women in Developing our Nation
Needless to say, women are in every field that was said to be ‘the men’s club’. They are not just present but are excelling in the said domains, too. Truly, it is an honour to be born in this generation, where women are no longer scorned- not in all places; we are given a fighting chance to prove ourselves to the male chauvinists that we are no less in comparison.
It is not a perfect world, but we are fighting one day at a time to prove to the people who still doubt the ability of women. Women excel in multitasking, do better than men in that area, and that is one skill that is so much in demand basically everywhere. The role of women in modern India is sort of a paradox. While we strive to achieve the so-called standards set by men, we are also bounded by rules, traditions and cultures, emotional barriers, and social restrictions which somehow seem to be limited to women.
Behind every strong independent woman, one can find a little girl who was refused her rights because the people surrounding her thought she wasn’t strong enough to survive in the big bad world of men.
Indian women are not lagging behind in the race with the world; be it in leadership, entrepreneurship, art and literature, sports, science, defence, media and so on. No matter what in what territory the challenge is thrown in, we are ready to accept and face it.
Why is it that only women have to face a situation where they have to choose between their relationships and their careers? This, more often than not, results in women settling for something less than what they deserve. Imagine a homemaker, working all day relentlessly so she could maintain peace in her household, for running a home is no small feat. Does she really get the praise and respect she deserves? Or is she taken for granted, considering she stays at home all day? From being maids to rocket scientists and world-famous celebrities, women are not only being under-appreciated, they are also being underpaid.
First and foremost, a society without women is a non-functional society. People need the calm, rational thinking that is the stereotype of women. They need the multitasking skills, the nurturing instinct, and the patience to overcome the enormous number of objectives that they face in their day to day lives. Imagine an environment without any of the above skills. How would it be? Violent, irrational and high testosterone levels with a lot of rough handling.
It’s not that only women should lead; not that only women should be allowed in the highest posts. Only a correct mix of both men and women can properly lead a nation, or any organization, for that matter. If there is a woman behind every man’s success, there is definitely a man behind a woman’s success; be it her father, brother, or her husband. For a better world, cooperation is a must.
Being human, we must support each other, recognise our strengths and support weaknesses. Humans evolved to the top of the food chain for two reasons- we are unique in our species, and we have the ability to cooperate with each other in large masses. So why not start with our better halves, the people who make our lives so much more better?
A woman, in whatever role she is in, be it a good leader or an entrepreneur, or a writer, or a wife or a mom, when she loves it, she does it with perfection. And that’s when others are bettered. That’s when the nation develops, one step at a time.
