Team Vyoma is a group of 15 students with the vision to innovate in the field of aerospace from R.V. College of Engineering.
Started in 2007, they are one of the leading student projects in India having won many national and international competitions like the NASA Systems Engineering Award among many others.
Team Vyoma’s achievements-
In 2017, International Autonomous Micro Aerial Vehicle conference and competition was the next stop for Vyoma. They placed 7th in the world in the outdoor competition category and were awardedregistration sponsorship by the IMAV organising committee too.
They also submitted 2 papers (both were among the top 10 papers in the world) to IDEA (Drone World Expo) 2017 organised by the AIAA. Later, one of the 2 papers qualified to be among the top 3 in the world.
More insight on what they do opens a whole new conversation about the scientific inclination of theseminds. Their primary objective is to conduct research on UAVs. They also handle sponsorship and logistic activities, all while balancing college life.
The Team believes that competing in international competitions gives them means to stay up to date with technology and solve global problems. The team has constantly participated in international events like SAE Aero-Design, Space Expo, Design, build and fly (DBF), IMAV, Drone World Expo among many others.
They have many subsystems within the team that specialise in their own fields like propulsion, materials, fabrication, design team, sponsorship team and logistics team. These subsystems come together with the best solutions and based on the performance matrix, some subsystems adjust their level of work for the sake of another subsystem to achieve a higher performance standard overall. This requires students from many disciplines and interests to take part in the design and manufacturing process. This makes the project a true testament to what interdisciplinary research can achieve. According to the team, their innovations would be of great help in domains like defence, photography, and surveys.
But they aren’t just all about innovation and technology, they make time to serve the society too by conducting workshops in many schools all over Bangalore to ignite interest in the field of Aerospace and help them build things using theoretical knowledge and not be confined to just learning in theory.
In conclusion Team Vyoma was the first team in Asia to participate in SAE Micro class and since then, they have had many milestones which prove that young minds can achieve the impossible.
