The importance of National Youth Day.
The average age of Indian population is 29 years and more than 50% Indians are aged below 25 years. But the percentage of literacy in India is still 71.4%. The government is trying its best to provide the right to education for all by making primary education free, by providing mid-day meals and all the essential commodities needed for a student. Even after so many facilities, India is the home of a huge number of child labours! According to UNESCO, the reason is lack of education.
Swami Vivekananda said, “Arise, awake and do not stop until the goal is reached!” but what should be our goal? It can be anything but should never be self-satisfaction. We the young generation of India have some responsibilities for our country as well. We are the one who can really bring some changes to the orthodox mindsets of the people of our society. But for that, we have to work really hard and for working hard we must need an inspiration. Who else can be a better inspiration than Swami Vivekananda, the patriotic saint of India, who devoted all his life to the upbringing of the underprivileged people of British India?
He encouraged and inspired the youths to work for the betterment of the society. He said,” Condemn none: if you can stretch out a helping hand, do so. If you cannot, fold your hands, bless your brothers, and let them go their own way.”
Living in the 21st century it feels really bad when we see people are fighting over religion! India is the home of the people of every religion. Swamiji taught us a totally new way to look towards religion and Hinduism. We should always remember that” There cannot be friendship without equality!” He described “Vedanta” in an absolutely new manner. He said we don’t have to visit eminent temples to find god. God is in us, God is in every living being.
He said, “The God is in front of you in different forms, one can serve the God only by serving the humankind.” We don’t need a guide or a “pundit” to bring out the spirituality in us, Swamiji believed, “You have to grow from the inside out. None can teach you, none can make you spiritual. There is no other teacher but your own soul.”
So according to the government of India, “It was felt that the philosophy of Swamiji and the ideas, for which he lived and worked, could be a great inspiration for the Indian youth.” And in the year 1984, they declared 12th January as the National Youths’ Day.
On 12th January 2018, we all should take the pledge to make every Indian understand the importance of education. Because “Education enlightens mind!” National Youths’ Day should be our turning point; it should be the day of integrity.
All the young minds of India should come out and hold the hands of each other take the pledge to make India a better place for everyone to live and a place where there are less poverty and right to education for all and by following the path of Swami Vivekananda, be the Game changers.
