 Kirti Chakra - The Second Highest Military Honour In India

The Kirti Chakra, the second highest military award given for valour, bold risk taking action, or self-sacrifice courageous action. It is equivalent to Maha Vir Chakra.

From the psychological point of view, the way one raised to inculcate such noble qualities leading to play an exemplary role. Although reasons may vary, successive governments have spotted heroes and recognized them with Kirti Chakra awards.

How Kirti Chakra Came into Existence?

The youth community who are constantly looking for recognition may be curious to know about the origins of Kirti Chakra awards.

The Kirti Chakra award for military and civilians was initially known as Ashok Chakra, Class II, came into effect from 15 August 1947. It was later revised and renamed as Kirti Chakra on 27 January 1967. From 1 February 1999, the government decided a monthly stipend of Rs.1050 for all those who awarded with Kirti Chakra.

Composition of the Medal

The Kirti Chakra, a silver medal has the embossing in the center neighbored by a lotus wreath on the circular edges. The other side of the medal has Kirti Chakra written in Hindi and English which are split by a lotus flower into the either sides with blank space in the center. The ribbon attached is dark green and is divided into three sections by 2 mm saffron stripes.
